Aug 14, 2023
RAYONG, Thailand – August 14, 2023
Meranti’s green steel vision takes another significant step forward, as Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche S.p.A, Italy, and Meranti Green Steel Pte. Ltd., Singapore, announce the partnership for a new green steel plant in Thailand. This cooperation aims to develop a modern ENERGIRON-based plant to produce green hot-rolled coils, with renewable energy solutions including solar & wind energy and green hydrogen supply.
Danieli and Meranti’s partnership was formalized today in Rayong. Present were Mr. Giacomo Mareschi Danieli, CEO of Danieli Group, and Mr. Sebastian Langendorf, CEO of Meranti Green Steel.
Meranti’s new green steel plant promises sustainable solutions. It will feature ENERGIRON direct reduction technology, jointly developed by Tenova and Danieli, ready for a transition to 90% hydrogen, Danieli DIGIMELTER featuring Q-ONE technology capable of processing green energy, and Danieli QSP-DUE thin slab casting and rolling technology for full flexibility in terms of width, thickness, and steel grades.
Sebastian Langendorf stated, “We are excited to work with the Danieli team on the technology and equipment for our new green steel plant in Thailand. Danieli is one of the world’s leading suppliers for steel making, and we believe that the advanced Energiron DRI technology will play a critical role in decarbonizing steel supply chains. Danieli has a major workshop in Rayong which allows for certain local manufacturing, and together with Danieli, we share a strong commitment to Thailand.”
Giacomo Mareschi Danieli added, “We are glad and proud to be partners of Meranti for this challenging project. We are fully aligned with Meranti’s vision and approach to be front-runners in the green steel transition, and we are sure that Danieli’s cutting-edge technologies will allow Meranti to play a leading role in the Far-East flat product market.”
Meranti’s new green steel plant will strengthen Thailand’s domestic steel production and exemplifies the commitment of countries such as Singapore and Thailand to lead the sustainable transformation of the iron and steel industry.
With this signing, Danieli will reinforce its position in the local market, also thanks to the presence of a dedicated workshop in Thailand which has long been serving the Far East market.
